If you're fitting a high flow catalytic converter, alongside headers or a dump pipe you will need to get a tune, as your vehicle will show engine codes with a scanner of the dash of the car. This, is a result of excessive flow from the motor which needs to be regulated for efficiency and performance. If you don't do get a tune done you might experience some issues related to excessive fuel usage or miss fires.
